Web3440x1440 is indeed a better resolution to invest in a higher end gpu, rather than cpu. The higher the resolution, the lower the disparity between cpu's and fps given the same gpu. So you're in a good spot to get a solid performing graphics card for longevity rather than a high end cpu for this use case.
